COMMUNITY PARTNERS

WBKH Fueling Kids Futures Community Partners

Fueling Kids’ Futures is a volunteer-run program dedicated to ensuring that no child in our school district goes hungry over the weekend. Now entering its 13th year, FKF-WBKH raises funds, orders, packs, and delivers bags filled with six non-perishable meals to send home with children in need every weekend. Last school year, FKF-WBKH packed and delivered over 69,000 weekend-meals to more than 300 students across the West Bloomfield School District. We proudly serve Doherty, Gretchko, Scotch, and Sheiko Elementary Schools, West Bloomfield Middle and High Schools, Oakland Early College, and the West Bloomfield Transition Center.

Our packing sessions for the 2024-2025 school year will begin in October. Volunteers are currently setting up operations in our new temporary location at Sheiko Elementary, located at 3380 Orchard Lake Road, Orchard Lake, MI 48324.

We deeply appreciate all our supporters—whether you’ve made a monetary or food donation or volunteered your time. We simply could not do what we do without your invaluable support.

WBKH 7th Annual Trivia Night

7th Annual Trivia Night: A Night of Fun, Costumes, and Community Spirit!

On Friday, November 8, 2024, Fueling Kids’ Futures hosted its 7th Annual Trivia Night fundraiser, and it was a smashing success! This year’s TV themed event brought out the creativity, generosity, and community spirit that make our mission possible.

Steering Committee members set the tone, donning classic Mouseketeer costumes, while guests embraced the TV theme with enthusiasm. Best Costume of the night was awarded to a guest at the Soul Train table, while  Baywatch won Best Table with an ensemble featuring lifeguards and even a shark. Other standout tables included M*A*S*H, The Price is Right, Sesame Street, and F-R-I-E-N-D-S, Even the bartenders joined in on the fun, representing It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with PADDY’s Irish Pub shirts. Guests also enjoyed taking pictures at the photo booth, complete with props like an Academy Award and paparazzi backdrops, adding extra glamour to the night.  The energy in the room was electric, fueled by spirited competition, laughter, and community camaraderie.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible dedication of our volunteers. From check-in to raffle ticket sales, every aspect of the evening was managed by passionate individuals who gave their time and talents. A special shout-out goes to the West Bloomfield High School National Honor Society student volunteers who stepped in to help and added a bright spark to the night.

Our amazing community contributed generously, supplying items for our raffle prizes. We extend heartfelt thanks to Club Pilates West Bloomfield, Early Bird Cafe, Ellen’s Bakery & Cafe, Goldie’s Mandel Bread, Stones Fine Jewelry, The Zekelman Holocaust Center, Tony’s Deli, and WBHS Laker Landing for their contributions. A special shout-out to our packing volunteers who donated scratch-off lottery tickets and dollar bills creating unique and exciting raffle items!

The event ended with a winning trivia table, and more importantly, with incredible results: in addition to collecting donations of canned tuna and boxes of macaroni and cheese, Fueling Kids’ Futures raised over $35,000! These funds will be used to purchase food for hunger-insecure students, ensuring they have meals to take home over the weekends.

Thank you to everyone who attended, dressed up, and supported this year’s Trivia Night! Your generosity helps us continue to provide weekend meals to students in need, ensuring no child in our community goes hungry. Together, we’re making a difference.

Our schools closed on March 13, 2020, and we no longer could send food bags home with our children.  So, we reorganized and teamed with our School District’s Nutrition Department to pass out our Blessings bags at two Curb Side school sites in our district. Continue…

WBKH Tom Kowalski Photo Revised

In a heartwarming collaboration, West Bloomfield- Keego Harbor Fueling Kids’ Futures is thrilled to announce a meaningful partnership with The Tom Kowalski Foundation. This alliance comes on the heels of a very generous donation from The Tom Kowalski Foundation’s “Killer Cares” event, held in December 2023 at The Lodge in Keego Harbor.

The Tom Kowalski Foundation, established in honor of a remarkable individual who dedicated much of his life to helping children in need, has been a steadfast supporter of students in the West Bloomfield/Keego Harbor school district for many years. Tom Kowalski’s legacy lives on through the foundation, which has consistently raised funds to address emergency needs and provide holiday assistance to local students.
