COMMUNITY PARTNERS
Nine years ago, at a meeting of the Oxford School Board on July 25, 2012, a group of concerned parents presented information about the Fueling Kids’ Futures program. The Board was very supportive of the program proceeding for their school-age children within the district. They still are today.
This program is a community-based program run by 100% volunteers giving of their time and talents to improve the quality of life for “hunger-insecure” children in Oxford. Many people do not realize that 24% of the school children in Oxford are hunger insecure for food insecurity. How can children learn if they are hungry?
Lakeville Elementary was the first school to be added to the program. Fueling Kids’ Futures-Oxford has come a long way in nine years. Leonard Elementary was added next. For the start of the 2016/17 school year the remaining elementary schools, Early Childhood and the Middle School were added to the program. By the start of 2019/20 school year all Oxford schools were now part of the program. The Steering Committee met its goal and now maintains the program within all the schools. To continue to feed children who are hunger-insecure we need the continued support of our community.
