COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Wayne Westland Community Partners 10-2024

Fueling Kids’ Futures Wayne-Westland is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help bridge the gap of the nutritional needs of children from the Wayne-Westland Community Schools District. The District serves students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Inkster, and Romulus.

All students in the Wayne-Westland Community Schools qualify for free breakfast and lunch.  These children are our neighbors. Each week, we will distribute bags filled with enough non-perishable food for the weekend to students in need. The goal of Fueling Kids’ Futures is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success.

The program is just beginning. The Steering committee that will oversee the program is being established. It is the goal of the Steering Committee to start sending bags home for the children in one of the elementary schools starting in 2021. The goal is to grow the Fueling Kids’ Futures program to be able to serve additional schools within our District as funds become available.

Because of the pandemic the start of this program had to be delayed until the 2021-2022 school year.    Funding has now been secured to start the program at the first elementary school.  Bags of food will begin going home to the children at Hicks Elementary in October 2021.

To help this program reach its goals, please donate so we can begin sending food home to children who need our help. When we are ready to begin packing, we will also need individuals, groups, or companies to assist with packing and transportation.

Please visit the website regularly to see the progress we are making and the announcement that bags of food are going home to the children of Wayne Westland Community Schools.

Kirk of our Savior Presbyterian Church

The first delivery of food will arrive on October 5, 2021.  Later that week the bags will be packed so the children at Hicks Elementary can take food home for the weekend for the first time under the Fueling Kids’ Futures program.  This was made possible by the very generous support of Kirk of our Savior Presbyterian Church.
